Social Events : A night out at Kajang Temple
Posted by admin on 2008/10/4 10:40:00 (140 reads)

A group of us, ten to be exact from the NOC and Technical Implementation teams turned up at Kajang Temple for their annual temple dinner. Getting there was a bit of fun especially in the dark it was the first time visit to the Temple for most.

A good time was had by all and the best part was the food. Not your usual restaurant food but something unique to temple dinners.

iBurst : iBurst Approved as New Standard for IEEE802.20
Posted by admin on 2008/9/3 12:10:00 (87 reads)

June 17, 2008

KYOTO, Japan- June 16, 2008 – Kyocera Corporation (President: Makoto Kawamura) (NYCE:KYO) is pleased to announce that Kyocera’s iBurst-based technology proposal (625k-MC mode) was approved as a new standard for IEEE 802.20 by the IEEE Standards Association (SA) at its headquarters, Piscataway, New Jersey, USA on June 12, 2008.

“Having been a draft standard since January 2006, Kyocera is gratified that iBurst has finally been approved as an 802.20 standard by the IEEE Standards Association,” said Mr. Masashi Yano, General Manager of the Corporate Communication System Equipment Division, Kyocera Corporation. “With this industry standard approval, we are expecting to expand the iBurst service area to more and more countries.”

Kyocera’s iBurst, or HC-SDMA, is a mobile broadband wireless access (MBWA) system that has been commercially rolled out in more than 10 countries and has been approved as a standard by American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and International Telecommunication Union Radiocommunication Sector ( ITU-R). iBurst has remarkably high capacity, essential for mobile broadband wireless access services, and distributes its high data rates to many mobile PC users. This is enabled by field-proven Adaptive Array Antenna (AAA) and Spatial Division Multiple Access (SDMA) technologies.

iBurst operators worldwide have formed the iBurst Association (iBA), a not-for-profit organization advocating the promotion and development of iBurst technology as a preferred MBWA solution.

A Wong Kok Wai favourite. Watch the trailer for Kung Fu Panda here. Perhaps, a build-up to the Beijing Olympics.

*Update* We have replaced Kung Fu Panda with the James Bond trailer.

Youtube : Ken Lee?
Posted by chtoh on 2008/5/1 7:40:00 (189 reads)

Youtube is probably the most popular video website on the Internet. Customers of Izzinet will have lots of fun with its unlimited download for all the service packages available.

One of the more entertaining things one can do is to watch some of the American Idols programme with its format franchise in many countries. The latest fun video is from the Bulgarian Idols show and "Ken Lee" is providing lots of laughter to those that can appreciate the funny side. Way to go Valentina Hasan! Don't forget to subscribe to Izzinet, your friendly broadband service.

Base Station : Fring on the iPhone on Izzinet iBurst
Posted by chtoh on 2008/4/18 8:10:00 (155 reads)

Yes, it is a bit of a mouthful but another killer app has just been launched. It is fring on the iPhone.

What is fring? Fring (http://www.fring.com) is an application running in the iPhone. With an wifi or GSM/EDGE setup, it is now possible to make calls from handphone to handphone using the wifi network.

What that means for izzinet is that the UTY which will be retailed should be a popular item. Suddenly, a subscription to izzinet iBurst network can now be used for surfing the network and well as making handphone to handphone calls without paying per minute call charges. This app supports Skype, GoogleTalk, MSN, YahooChat, Twitter and AIM. It is still in beta but we can expect great things from it soon as it reaches maturity. We await its official release out of beta.

Wow. I think the Izzinet iBurst network has just increased its value. We have a ready-made handphone in the form of an iPhone. Even before the Wimax operators have managed to rollout their network, we are there already with arguably the hottest handphone in the world. Yes!!!

Exhibitions / Fairs : PC Fair at KLCC - 12 April
Posted by chtoh on 2008/4/16 7:50:00 (163 reads)

Our direct sales team performing at the PC Fair last weekend. Our competitors were there and Izzinet had a respectable presence. The halls were much more packed compare to the last PC Fair held last December.

Prominent this year were the wireless broadband operators in the exhibition halls. This is a good sign as it shows the industry is active.
As you can see from the photo here, our direct sales team were actively pursuing potential customers and promoting our services.

With the commissioning of a new basestation with coverage of the convention centre, the sales team were able to demonstrate our services to the customers. Download speed were somewhat lower in the halls but in the corridors outside, it was near full speed at about 800-900 kbps. Truly impressive iBurst technology.

We certainly look forward to the next PC Fair to further bring in new coverage areas.
