Internet : The Power of the Internet
Posted by admin on 2008/11/8 9:10:00 (69 reads)

The recent American election is certainly a fascinating drama. Barack Obama achieved history being the first black person to assume office of the American Presidency on 20 January 2009. The Internet was used to raise campaign funds and the millions of donations from the public achieved another record. The candidates also used the popular Youtube website to get their campaign video images to the American public.

Since the election, Barack Obama has moved on with the next step in the use of the Internet to communicate with the American public. Americans can now communicate with their president over the Internet.

This is an example of a more innovative use of the Internet and who knows what the Barack Obama's team will further innovate.

During the campaign, Barack Obama supported Net Neutrality where all Internet services (http, ftp, bittorrent, video streaming, web hosting, VoIP etc) are treated equally. Currently, most if not all ISPs throttle bit torrent traffic. These assume that bit torrent traffic are somehow used for distribution of illegal files. There is a fierce on-going debate on the Internet over Net Neutrality and there are valid points put up by both sides of the debate.

ISPs should be at the forefront of innovative use of the Internet. Perhaps it is a requirement for survival in the tough economic climate. Yes, we can and Yes, we shall!
